Paying for Claude: subscription, crypto card and renewal checks
Distinguish Claude web subscriptions, mobile purchases and API billing, then check card location, authentication and renewal arrangements.

This guide concerns personal Claude subscriptions. A Claude plan and API usage in the Console are separate products with separate charges. Buying API credit does not upgrade the personal subscription. For chat use, start with official Claude plan selection and confirm the account and billing interval.
2Compare web checkout and mobile purchases
Claude’s official billing guide lists credit and debit cards for web subscriptions; Apple and Google handle their respective in-app purchases. Check an existing method first, then compare the final currency and total at checkout. A suitable crypto card uses the card-payment process, not a USDT transfer to Claude.
3Check billing location and card origin
Claude’s decline guidance asks users to check supported billing locations and the payment method’s origin country, with billing details matching issuer records. Follow the official support link and check your actual circumstances first. Card eligibility alone does not establish acceptance by an AI service.

Have you checked these four things?
Check each item as you review it. Nothing is submitted; progress lasts for this page visit.
Completing this checklist does not guarantee acceptance; the service and issuer determine the outcome.
4Assess recurring-payment support
Before applying, ask whether the product supports online subscriptions, whether renewals need manual approval, what happens after a card replacement, and how refunds or remaining funds are recovered. Assess those answers before paying setup and funding costs. This site has not tested Claude signup and renewal with specific crypto cards and does not label unverified cards as compatible.
5Compare the full cost
In one comparison currency, record the tax-inclusive subscription, fixed card charges, funding fees, conversion costs and applicable cross-currency spending charges. Add a sender fee only if an on-chain top-up is required. Separate one-time setup from monthly costs and compare the same subscription period. Actual quotes and invoices govern; one displayed transfer fee does not predict every future month.
Do not add funding costs again if your existing balance is sufficient. A dollar invoice is not the same quantity of USDT.
6Claude card declined: balance, billing address or 3DS?
Identify the step that failed. If bank authentication was never completed, check the code or bank-app confirmation. If verification finished but payment was declined, ask the issuer to inspect the authorization request. Claude’s guidance covers matching billing details, eligible locations, sufficient funds for the full purchase and any required 3D Secure challenge. Money on the card addresses only part of that checklist. Prepare the purchase channel, time and time zone, amount and currency, exact error, card’s last four digits and issuer transaction status. The issuer can investigate authorization; if it confirms a completed payment but the plan has not upgraded, send the receipt to Claude support. Opening another card or adding funds is not a universal fix.
7Keep the receipt and review renewal
For a web subscription, Settings → Billing provides invoices and card updates; the updated card is used for future renewals. Manage mobile purchases in their original store. Keep the subscription account, channel, renewal date and card’s last four digits. If a paid plan appears free, check the login account and recent payment status before purchasing again.
8Cancel the subscription before closing a card
Cancel web/desktop subscriptions in Claude Billing; use the original app store for mobile purchases. Official guidance recommends at least 24 hours before the next charge, with access continuing through the current period. Confirm cancellation before deciding what to do with the card balance. Canceling a plan, closing a card and requesting a refund are separate actions.
9Who handles a Claude refund? Check the receipt first
For a web purchase, open Get help in Claude and follow the refund-request process so eligibility can be reviewed. Apple reviews iOS in-app refunds; Claude support cannot refund App Store charges directly. For Android, follow Claude’s official refund instructions. An inactive subscription can be located using the Google Play account email or GPA order number. If a charge appears after cancellation, submit the cancellation time, next billing period and new receipt together. Confirm that the canceled account and channel match that charge. Keep separate records for cancellation, the refund request and receipt of funds. Before replacing or closing the card, ask its provider how a later refund will be handled.
What to do next
If an existing payment method works, review the subscription on the service’s official site. If you are considering a crypto card, check eligibility, funding methods and total costs first.
