Considering a crypto card? See the extra steps
This illustrates the process, not tested card compatibility. Do not send USDT directly to an AI service.
1Understand what a crypto card does
“U card” is an informal Chinese term for a spending card funded or settled through crypto; it is not a common technical standard. A product may convert assets to a fiat balance in advance or convert at spending time. Identify the issuer, custodian and conversion timing. A merchant receiving a card payment does not necessarily accept the crypto used to fund that card.
2Start with the intended purchase
Identify whether the goal is in-store spending, a one-off online purchase or recurring AI billing. Then check the service region, card type, spending currency and authentication needs. If a regular card already works, compare its total cost with opening another card. This site provides a checking process, not untested card rankings or a promise that a card will pay for ChatGPT or Claude.
3Check eligibility for the exact product
Check residence, age, identity documents and other application conditions on the card’s official website, and make sure the fee schedule and agreement refer to the same product. Bitrefill Card, for example, publishes eligible residence countries, identity verification and additional nationality restrictions. Website access is not card eligibility. Card and exchange accounts are assessed separately.

Have you checked these four things?
Check each item as you review it. Nothing is submitted; progress lasts for this page visit.
Completing this checklist does not guarantee acceptance; the service and issuer determine the outcome.
4Use the card’s own funding instructions
Open the card’s funding page and check the asset, network, address, minimum and crediting conditions, then match the sender. Do not infer compatibility from a brand or ticker. For example, Bitrefill Card stopped accepting USDT on every network on 17 March 2025, while its notice distinguishes other Bitrefill products that still accept USDT. Our Bitrefill merchant-payment route is not a funding route for that card.
5Compare a complete cost checklist
Record setup charges, monthly charges, funding/conversion costs, spending/FX fees and any relevant cash-out or closure fees separately. Not every card charges every item; check the agreement. Arithmetic example: a tax-inclusive $20 purchase plus $1 actually lost during funding and $2 in card charges attributable to it costs $23. This is not a card quote and does not assume free one-to-one USDT conversion.
Do not add funding costs again if your existing balance is sufficient. A dollar invoice is not the same quantity of USDT.
6Separate transfer, card credit and purchase status
After an on-chain transfer, check the spendable balance in the card account rather than relying only on the exchange’s withdrawal status. Bitrefill explicitly separates Card balance from store credit. Keep the transfer reference, card-credit record and merchant receipt to identify which provider can investigate a problem. Do not send even a small test until support for the receiving asset and network is confirmed.
7Make an extra check for recurring payments
Ask about recurring charges, online authentication, replacement cards and refunds. Record the next billing date and review expiry, spendable balance and fee changes. A successful first charge does not establish successful automatic renewal; record later outcomes with their dates, service and purchase channel. Cancel through the merchant or app store rather than relying on an empty balance.
8Choose an exchange only when funding requires one
With enough usable card balance, proceed to the purchase checks. With compatible assets already held, review the existing sending method. Compare exchanges only after confirming card requirements, regional eligibility and funding costs. Compare withdrawal fees, minimums, availability and account conditions for the same asset and network, not just signup incentives. After funding, confirm the card balance before continuing to merchant checkout.
9Is a separate crypto card worthwhile for a small monthly purchase?
Compare the period you actually plan to use. These are hypothetical numbers, not a card quote, subscription price or exchange rate: three monthly tax-inclusive purchases of $20, a one-time $6 setup charge, a $1 monthly card fee and $1.50 in total extra costs per top-up. Funding monthly costs $60 + $6 + $3 + $4.50 = $73.50, or $24.50 per month. The $1.50 already contains this example’s extra funding costs; do not add it twice. Using the same assumptions for one month costs $20 + $6 + $1 + $1.50 = $28.50. If a regular card can make the purchase, compare its actual total. Larger top-ups may reduce fixed-fee events but leave more money in the card account; consider whether and at what cost that balance can be withdrawn. The example explains fixed costs, not a recommendation to pre-fund.
10Where does a crypto-card refund go?
Identify which payment needs returning. For a merchant refund, trace the purchase receipt and card transaction. For a rejected deposit, trace the funding record and original transfer. For unused card funds, check withdrawal or closure terms. These are different processes; funding with crypto does not establish that a purchase refund will return to the exchange. Ask the provider about the refund currency, receiving account, transaction reference and what happens after card replacement. Bitrefill Card illustrates the distinction: its official guide describes Pending Transaction as an unsettled authorization hold, while Reversed Deposit means a deposit was not accepted and the provider will request a refund address. Its card-dispute guidance starts with contacting the merchant, then card support with the correspondence if unresolved. Other cards have their own terms.
